Another commonly false assumption pre-retirees make is that their tax rate will be significantly lower in retirement. They assume because they are no longer bringing in the same lvel of income, they wont be paying the same level of taxes. But often they forget they will still owe taxes on their traditional 401 (k) distributions, says Gary Droz, managing director at MainLine Private Wealth, a registered investment advisor in Wynnewood, Pa. He says families – particularly those with household earnings over $100,000 – often have a similar tax rate in retirement, or even higher once required minimum distributions are taken into account.

U.S. Fund investors dashed into domestic stocks, pouring the most cash in seven weeks into the market, according to Investment Company Institute (ICI) data on Wednesday. The funds collected $6 billion in the seven days through Dec. 6, according to the trade group, as the market is poised to close 2017 with another strong year of gains under its belt.
“We’re in literally the longest amount of days since a 5 percent drawdown in 25 years,” said Gary Droz, managing director at MainLine Private Wealth LLC, referring to a significant U.S. stock selloff.

Financial Advisor
One key tenet of being a financial advisor is helping clients better understand the real value and costs associated with making some of life’s most important decisions. Clients often look at the world through a straw and do not always realize exactly what the real costs are of a particular financial planning strategy. For many clients, especially those in the high-net-worth category, college planning for their children is among the most difficult and important decisions they will have to make in their lifetime.

Market Watch
“Basic fundamentals are good, companies are making money, and I think the market will be relatively strong throughout earnings season, but I don’t see a huge spike up between now and the end of the year because a lot [of earnings optimism] has been priced in,” said Gary Droz, managing director at MainLine Private Wealth.
Equities have gone an unusually long time without a pronounced pullbacks, with dips of even 3% in short supply. Droz said this was something that merited watching.
“We don’t want to lull ourselves into a complete coma. Anything could trigger a drawdown; markets need to breathe,” he said.

U.S. stocks retreated from record highs weighed by a slump in financials as better-than-expected earnings from JP Morgan and Citigroup did little to lift sentiment on equities.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower at 22,841.01. The S&P 500 closed 0.17% lower while the Nasdaq Composite closed at 6591.81, down 0.18%.
U.S. stocks started the session on the back foot as investors mulled over earnings reports from JP Morgan and Citigroup that beat on both the top (and) bottom lines.

Gary Droz, managing director of $400 million RIA MainLinePrivate Wealth, says he uses iCapital’s platforms to access alternative investments for his high-net-worth clients.
“What they’re trying to do is make the subscription part seamless,” Droz says.
His firm opted to use iCapital because he found its pricing to be reasonable and liked that it made the subscription profess smoother, Droz says.
